PowerPoint Slides

[Nov 23, 2009 14:09] Web access to Microsoft Live@edu accounts now works.

The PowerPoint presentation is ubiquitous in meetings and even classrooms. All videoconference clients have a means of originating a PowerPoint presentation. In general, PC-based originators (including NetMeeting) can share Microsoft PowerPoint with another PC-based videoconference site.

When an appliance such as a Polycom Viewstation is involved, whether as an originator or a destination, the Web-based interface to the Polycom must be used. Caveat: Microsoft's Internet Explorer must be used to access the Web interface on the Polycom Viewstation.

If an MCU (Multipoint Control Unit) is used so that multiple sites may participate in a conference, the same limitations apply if an appliance client is included. If the originator has a PC-based client and wishes to use PowerPoint slides, the slides may be downloaded remotely to the Polycom ViewStation. Once the Polycom site starts the slide show, the presenter who downloaded the slides can control them with the "remote control" that pcPresenter provides. All the sites should use IE to connect to the Polycom and View a Presentation.

Do not close the window labeled "Polycom pcPresenter" , but you can park it to get it out of the way. Use the window labeled just "pcPresenter" to view the presentation.
  5. Configure the videoconference windows to be "on top" if desired.
  6. The Polycom Viewstation will show the remote videoconference client in the PIP. After a timeout, the remote videoconference picture is shown but the slide control is still displayed on the appliance.
  7. If the slide show is closed it will be unloaded from the Polycom Viewstation.
