Cellular Phone Service (Faculty/Staff)
Description Wireless and cellular telephone service for UVa faculty and staff is handled through VITA (Virginia Information Technologies Agency) contracts with five cellular service providers: Verizon (which recently purchased Alltel); AT&T (which VITA still refers to as Cingular); Nextel (part of Sprint Nextel); Sprint; and nTelos. Please note that AT&T is the only vendor that supports iPhones, so you should review the information for Cingular if you are interested in the iPhone. The University of Virginia is required by the Commonwealth of Virginia to purchase cellular services from supplier contracts designated by the state as "mandatory." The Medical Center is exempt from this requirement. Upon selecting a plan and equipment, please email your request to ITC Communication Services, at vitarequests@virginia.edu.
