LISREL 8.7 FOR MAC OS 9 AND X: RELEASE NOTES ============================================= 1. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS * G3 processor or higher. * Mac OS 9 or X. * 125 MB of hard disk space. 2. THE APPLICATIONS LISREL 8.7 for MAC OS 9 and X includes the following Mac OS applications. * LISREL 8.7 * prelis * lisrel * multilevel * surveyglim LISREL 8.7 is a Mac OS text editor application that interfaces with the Mac OS applications prelis, lisrel, multilevel and surveyglim. prelis is an application for manipulating data, transforming data, generating data, computing moment matrices, computing asymptotic covariance matrices, performing regression analyses, performing exploratory factor analyses, logistic regression, probit regression, censored regression, etc. The application lisrel is intended for Standard and Multilevel Structural Equation Modeling. The Full Information Maximum Likelihood (FIML) method for missing data is also available for both Standard and Multilevel Structural Equation Modeling. Special methods for the analysis of ordinal variables are also available. The application multilevel fits multilevel linear and nonlinear models to raw data. The application surveyglim fits Generalized LInear Models (GLIMS) to complex survey data and simple random sample data. 3. INSTALLATION (this step modified by UVA ITC - Research Computing 8/8/2006 ) * Insert the LISREL 8.7 for Mac OS 9 and X CD in the CD-ROM drive. * Copy the *.sit file to the hard drive and double click. * Use Stuffit Expander to expand the contents of the Stuffit archive L87Mac9X.SIT to a temporary folder of your choice. This creates a folder L87Mac9x. * In the folder, run the Mac OS application "LISREL8.7Installer" from the temporary folder by double-clicking on the application "LISREL8.7Installer". IMPORTANT NOTICE If you are running later versions of Mac OS X, then you may need to download a demo version of Stuffit InstallerMaker from www.stuffit.com. Note that this will be necessary if your Mac OS does not recognize "LISREL8.7Installer" as an application, but as a document. 4. FILE EXTENSIONS * The conventions for default file name extensions are as follows. .LS8 - A LISREL syntax file .SPL - A SIMPLIS syntax file .PR2 - A PRELIS, MULTILEVEL or SurveyGLIM syntax file .OUT - An output file generated by the applications prelis, lisrel and multilevel. * Users can use any other file name extensions except '.MSF', '.DSF' and '.PSF', since these file extensions are used internally by the applications prelis and lisrel. 5. DATA * The applications prelis, lisrel, multilevel and surveyglim process raw data from a Prelis System File (PSF). * The applications prelis and lisrel can also process raw data from text data files. * A PSF can be created from a text data file by using prelis - see section 8. below for more details. * The application lisrel can also process moment matrices (covariance matrices, correlation matrices, etc.) from a text file while estimated asymptotic covariance matrices are processed from binary files. These text and binary files are obtained by using prelis (see, for example, the PRELIS syntax file EX71.PR2 in the LS8EX folder). 7. SYNTAX FILES * PRELIS, SIMPLIS, LISREL, MULTILEVEL and SURVEYGLIM syntax files are text files which have the default extensions ".PR2", .SPL",".LS8", ".PR2" and .PR2 respectively. * PRELIS syntax files are described in: Jöreskog, K.G. & Sörbom, D. (1999). Structural Equation Modeling with the SIMPLIS Command Language. Lincolnwood, IL: Scientific Software International, Inc. Examples of PRELIS syntax files are provided in the PR2EX folder. * SIMPLIS syntax files are described in: Jöreskog, K.G. & Sörbom, D. (1999). Structural Equation Modeling with the SIMPLIS Command Language. Lincolnwood, IL: Scientific Software International, Inc. Examples of SIMPLIS syntax files are provided in the SPLEX folder. * LISREL syntax files are described in: Jöreskog, K.G. & Sörbom, D. (1999). LISREL 8: User's Reference Guide. Lincolnwood, IL: Scientific Software International, Inc. Examples of LISREL syntax files are provided in the LS8EX folder. * MULTILEVEL syntax files are described in: Jöreskog, K.G., Sörbom, D., Du Toit, S.H.C. & Du Toit, M. (2001). LISREL 8: New Statistical Features. Third printing with revisions. Lincolnwood, Illinois: Scientific Software International, Inc. Examples of MULTILEVEL syntax files are provided in the MLEVELEX folder. * SURVEYGLIM syntax files are described in the online help file Examples of SURVEYGLIM syntax files are provided in the SGLIMEX folder. * Most syntax files used by LISREL 8.7 for Windows should be compatible with LISREL 8.7 for Mac OS 9 and X. If a problem should be encountered in this regard, then the utility TOMAC.EXE (available at ftp://ftp.lisrel.com/lisrel/mac) may be used to convert the syntax file. * The utility TODOS.EXE (available at ftp://ftp.lisrel.com/lisrel/mac) should be used to convert LISREL 8.7 for Mac OS 9 and X syntax files to LISREL 8.7 for Windows syntax files. 8. GENERATING PRELIS SYSTEM FILES FROM TEXT DATA FILES USING PRELIS All the multilevel modeling examples (MLEVELEX folder) and many of the missing data (MISSEX folder) and multilevel SEM examples (MSEMEX folder) uses PRELIS System Files (PSF's). PRELIS syntax and text data files to generate these PSF's are included in the folder where the corresponding PSF's are required.
