Mac Mail under Snow Leopard: Configuring Outgoing Mail

[Nov 23, 2009 14:09] Web access to Microsoft Live@edu accounts now works.

Users of new or upgraded Macintosh computers running the Snow Leopard operating system (Mac OS X version 10.6) may experience a problem with auto configuration of outgoing mail in Mac Mail software. Messages are successfully received.

If you are having trouble sending messages in Snow Leopard using Mac Mail:

  1. Check all of your email configuration settings.
  2. In addition to these configuration settings, please remember to check your Secure Connections Settings. To do this:
    1. Click on the Mail menu option at the top of the page.
    2. Click on the Preferences option from the Mail menu.
    3. The Accounts window will appear. Click on the Advanced tab.
    4. Near the bottom of the screen, make sure the checkbox for Use SSL is checked (enabled).
    5. Click on the Account Information tab.
    6. Click the drop-down list for Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): options.
    7. Click on the option for Edit Server List.
    8. The Edit Server List window will appear. Near the bottom of this window is a secondary checkbox — Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) — that needs to be checked (enabled).
