Update: Software Delivery Pilot

In mid-September, the Software Solutions Beyond Labs (SSBL) Community began a “proof of concept” pilot test to explore alternative methods of software delivery. Currently under review is a virtual mechanism which facilitates access to software regardless of a student’s location. Several classes in the Engineering school, as well as other individual faculty, staff, and students are participating in this pilot.

Participants are testing pre-determined (based on constituent feedback) software applications on laptop and desktop machines in both wired and wireless environments using Linux, Mac, and PC platforms. Evaluation criteria include performance of servers housing the software applications, speed of connections, and intuitiveness of the interface.

While the current phase of the pilot is relatively small in scope, the SSBL community plans to expand the project in spring 2010 to include a wider University audience.
