[Nov 23, 2009 14:09] Web access to Microsoft Live@edu accounts now works.

How to Configure Your Windows Mobile Device to Connect to Your Exchange Account

To connect a device running on Windows Mobile (e.g., PocketPC6800, Treo700W/WX, or Treo 750) to the UVa Exchange Service:

  1. Enable ActiveSync on the UVa Exchange Service.
  2. Configure your Windows Mobile device to connect to your email account on the UVa Exchange Service.

Before You Start

Connect to a UVa Wireless Network

You may want to connect your Windows mobile device to UVa’s unencrypted wahoo wireless network.

Step 1: Enable ActiveSync on the UVa Exchange Service.

  1. Go to the Eservices Management Website and log in through NetBadge.
  2. Click Account Management, then Exchange tools.
  3. Click Activate Exchange for a Mobile Device or Smartphone.
  4. Click the Mobile Activation button.

Step 2: Configure Your Windows Mobile Device to Connect to the UVa Exchange Service.

  1. Determine your Windows Mobile version. Determine which version of the Windows Mobile operating system is on your device, as the settings for Windows Mobile 5 are slightly different than those for Windows Mobile 6. To make this determinination, you can:
    • Ask your retailer;
    • Check the original box in which your device was packaged; or
    • Check your device itself:
      • If you have a touch screen: tap Start, then Settings, then System, then About. You will see the Windows Mobile version information.
      • If you have a non-touch screen: go to the Windows Mobile website for instructions.
  2. If needed, install the Entrust.net Secure Certification Authority certificate. In our experience, this certificate is installed on most mobile devices.
    1. Download the Secure Server Certification Authority certificate from the Entrust website to your computer, saving the certificate as a .cer file.
    2. Move the certificate from the computer Desktop to your Windows Mobile device through the ActiveSync Program, which is part of the installation software.
    3. Install the certificate by starting your mobile device. Then...
      1. Use File Explorer to find the .cer file.
      2. Open the .cer file:
        • Windows Mobile 5: The More prompt is not seen.
        • Windows Mobile 6: When prompted to install the certificate, click the More prompt.
      3. Approve the installation.
  3. Configure your device for a UVa Exchange Service email account.
    1. From the Home Screen, tap Start, then ActiveSync.
    2. Tap the Menu, then select Configure Server.
    3. In the Server field, type mail.eservices.virginia.edu
    4. Check the box beside This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection.
    5. If checked, uncheck the box beside Try to get e-mail setting automatically from the Internet.
    6. In the Username field, type your UVa computing ID in the form:
id (if there is a separate box for Domain name) or eservices\id (if there is no separate box for Domain name). For example: either mst3k or eservices\mst3k
    7. In the Password field, type your password.
      • Note: The password for your Exchange account is the same as your Eservices password. If you do not know this password, (re)set it now.
    8. If there is a box for Domain name, type: eservices.virginia.edu
    9. To verify any of the synchronization options, click Advanced.

Note: If your Windows Mobile device is connected to your UVa Exchange account, you may be required to use a timed lock-out password in compliance with the Exchange ActiveSync policy. If the current passcode for your device does not meet policy requirements, the device will not synch with the server until the passcode is changed.
