Follow the instructions below to configure your iPhone/iPod Touch to connect to your UVa email account on:
We recommend you apply all hardware and software updates and patches to your iPhone/iPod Touch before you begin.
How to Configure Your iPhone/iPod Touch for Your UVa Gmail Account
- From the Home screen, tap Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then Add Account...
- Select the Gmail choice.
- In the specified fields:
- In the Name: field, type your name as you want it to appear in the From: line of email messages you send from this account.
- In the Address: field, type your UVa email address in the form your computing ID@virginia.edu, e.g., mst3k@virginia.edu
- In the Password: field, type your password (Note: This will be your UVa Gmail password for IMAP/POP access, not your UVa NetBadge password).
- In the Description: field, type a name to help you identify this account, such as UVa Gmail.

Optionally, you may want to configure your iPhone/iPod Touch for the University of Virginia LDAP, as well.
How to Configure Your iPhone/iPod Touch for Your UVa Live Email Account
- From the Home screen, tap Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then Add Account...
- From the default list, choose Other.
- In the specified fields:
- In the Name: field, type your name as you want it to appear in the From: line of email messages you send from this account.
- In the Address: field, type your UVa email address in the form your computing ID@virginia.edu, e.g., mst3k@virginia.edu
- In the Password: field, type your password (Note: This will be your UVa Live password for POP access, not your UVa NetBadge password).
- In the Description: field, type a name to help you identify this account, such as UVa Live.

How to Configure Your iPhone/iPod Touch for Your UVa Exchange Email Account
Configure your iPhone or iPod Touch to connect to your email account on the UVa Exchange Service via ActiveSync or via IMAP.
Optionally, you may want to configure your iPhone/iPod Touch for the University of Virginia LDAP, as well.
How to Configure Your iPhone/iPod Touch for Your UVa CMS Email Account
- From the Home screen, tap Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then Add Account...
- From the default list, choose Other.
- In the specified fields:
- In the Name: field, type your name as you want it to appear in the From: line of email messages you send from this account.
- In the Address: field, type your UVa email address (this may use your UVa computing ID or an email alias). For example,
mst3k@virginia.edu or mike@email.virginia.edu. - In the Password: field, type your UVa CMS password.
- In the Description: field, type a name to help you identify this account, such as CMS Account.
- Tap Save and then enter the following information:
- Incoming Mail Server:
- Host Name: cms.mail.virginia.edu
- User Name: your UVa computing id (e.g., mst3k)
- Password: your UVa CMS password (should already be there from the previous screen)
- Outgoing Mail Server:
- Host Name: cms.mail.virginia.edu
- User Name: your UVa computing id (e.g., mst3k)
- Password: your UVa CMS password
- Incoming Mail Server:
- Tap Save and wait for it to verify your account. Then, go back into the account by selecting its name.
- Under Outgoing Mail Server, tap SMTP, then under Primary Server, tap cms.mail.virginia.edu.
- Click Advanced and scroll down to confirm that Use SSL is set to ON. Then tap Authentication and make sure this is set to Password.
Optionally, you may want to configure your iPhone/iPod Touch for the University of Virginia LDAP, as well.
Note: To change synch settings later, go to Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then select whatever you named this account (e.g., CMS Account).
