Lost iKey, Forgotten Password, Deleted iKey Certificate

Lost or Stolen iKeys

If your ikey is lost or stolen, please email secnet-info@virginia.edu immediately. Your iKey will be disabled on the JointVPN so it cannot be used maliciously for VPN access. If you recover your iKey later, the JointVPN can be reactivated.

After notifying us of a lost or stolen iKey, your LSP may request a replacement iKey using the iKey request form. When a lost or stolen ikey is replaced with a new one, the new iKey certificate will have a different serial number. Systems depending on the serial number will need to re-authorize access with the new serial number. The JointVPN will be updated with this new serial after you sign the iKey Digital Certificate form upon receipt of the iKey. Servers or systems other than the JointVPN are handled on a case-by-case basis.

Forgotten iKey Passwords

If you have forgotten the password to your iKey, or if you have attempted your password ten times since your last successful password entry, you will need to have your iKey re-initialized to use it again. Return your iKey to the ITC Accounts Office (See map >>). We strive to have password resets completed within one business day, and an automated email will be sent to you with pickup instructions when it is ready.

Deleted iKey Certificates

If you have accidentally deleted the certificate from your iKey and it is no longer accessible, you will need a new certificate installed on your iKey to use it again. Return your iKey to the ITC Accounts Office (See map >>). When a certificate is deleted, your new iKey certificate will have a different serial number. Systems depending on the serial number will need to re-authorize access with the new serial number. The JointVPN will be updated with this new serial number after you sign the iKey Digital Certificate form upon receipt of the iKey. Servers or systems other than the JointVPN are handled on a case-by-case basis.
