[Nov 23, 2009 14:09] Web access to Microsoft Live@edu accounts now works.
Choosing an Appropriate Server for Your Website
In order to create a website at the University of Virginia, you must have an account on a machine that acts as a Web server. Choosing the appropriate server for your site involves two primary steps:
- determining your affiliation (or the affiliation of your department/organization/academic class) with the University of Virginia, and
- determining if your site will use technology that is only available on certain Web servers.
Please note that all use of computers at the University of Virginia, including personal, departmental and organizational websites, is governed by University policies regarding appropriate use of University equipment. Information on design standards and branding for UVa sites is also available.

The location of a website that does not match any of the above categories
(for example, a group that has affiliation with the University of
Virginia but is not an official part of the University) will vary.
Should you fall into this category, please contact web-consult@virginia.edu and describe what your group's function is, how the group is related to
the University and what you need (a website, other assistance?).
The University's Hostmaster can provide information on policies regarding virtual host names. A virtual host name is created when a consortium of institutions have a Web page hosted at UVa. |
