1. Configure access to the Internet

2. Register your network address

3. Apply Critical Updates

4. Install Common Software

5. Run "Norton Live Update" and then run a scan of your hard drive (the "C" drive)

This will update the components of Norton Anti-Virus and install the latest virus definitions. The scan will make sure that your hard drive is free of any known viruses, worms, and other "nastiness".

6. Run Windows Security Analyzer
