The complete Dell instructions for installing this BIOS update are on Dell's Site.

The program to make a floppy you can then use to boot your system and initialize the BIOS either available from Dell's Support Site (click on the "America's" link in the middle of the page, or from a local copy at U.Va.

In either case save the file to your hard drive - it will be named C600-A21.exe. Double click on that file and a program will start which can create a floppy for you to use next. The floppy will be erased, be sure it is empty and formatted before you start.Click Setup in the initial pop-up window, a new window will appear with additional instructions. Use the Enter key to exit the new window after it has finished writing the floppy.

DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU ARE RUNNING USING JUST YOUR BATTERY. PLUG THE COMPUTER IN BEFORE STARTING THE NEXT STEP.

Leave the floppy in your disk drive reboot your machine. It should reboot using the floppy instead of the hard drive, and prompt you to do the update. If your machine reboots using your hard drive instead of the floppy, contact the ITC Computing Help Desk at (434) 924-3731 or bring it to one of the carry-in assistance sites listed in your email during working hours. For the advanced user there are other ways to install the update, they are also available from Dell.
