A Division of ITC's Applications and Data Services (ADS)
The products and services provided by Data Services enable the University of Virginia to manage its institutional data.
To preserve the value of UVa's critical institutional data, and to ensure accessibility to this resource, the University adopted the Administrative Data Access Policy in 1994. The cornerstone of the policy was the philosophy that information must be “available to all employees who have a legitimate need.”
To accommodate this philosophy and to leverage the University's investment in its information resources, Data Services has been charged with the responsibility to develop and implement effective and cost-efficient data administration and data security practices.
Data Services also:
- Delivers services and products that assist the University community in locating, accessing, employing, and protecting institutional data;
- Serves as the leading advocate for guiding the data access philosophy into one that fosters knowledge management; and
- Offers for-fee services to other units and departments.
