Applications and Data Services Mission Statement and Objectives

Mission Statement

The basic mission of the division is to plan, develop, implement, and maintain academic, business, and ITC internal application software, administer institutional data, and deliver these data to the user community. The division is also the catalyst for continuous improvement in application development/support and data management tools and methods.

Objectives

The goal of Applications and Data Services is to support the instruction, research, and administrative functions of the University by providing a set of integrated information systems and easily accessible databases of institutional data to the user community. More than ever before, institutions of higher learning have a need for information about themselves and a need to share data with outside entities, such as high schools, community colleges, their governing bodies, and one another. Their desire to reduce processing costs, better attract prospective students, and facilitate the intellectual pursuits of students and faculty are forcing this change.

To satisfy these needs, Applications and Data Services will be placing significant emphasis over the next several years on upgrading existing applications and developing additional applications using new computing architectures designed to enhance software flexibility and allow easier integration of functions and data.

Expected benefits are the ability to develop capabilities that:

  • seamlessly tap into any data regardless of the source,
  • present data to faculty, students, and staff in a manner customized for their individual needs, and
  • allow placement on any hardware platform.
